Today’s post is very interactive one! It is one in which I want to encourage you to think deeply and find the #ForeverMoments in your life, a moment in which an event or a person changed, inspired, or encouraged something profound in you. I encourage you to post your comments on this link and tag that individual if possible. Also, for many of us, those who have touched our lives the most may not actually be with us anymore; however, we can still recognize those individuals and keep their memories alive.

***My Personal #ForeverMoments Story***

I will share a personal memory that changed me in a very strong way. Please note this is not a sexy story that ties in with the amazing writing of author Jennifer L. Armentrout, but it is a moment that brought some closure to one relationship and opened the door to another. It was a moment that caused me to grow up too fast, that caused a major shift in a relationship that I held dearly for my entire childhood. But before I get to the story, I believe it is important for me to share my perspective about life and the fact that people are a part of your life for reasons we may never know.

Sometimes relationships stay forever and sometime relationships serve a purpose and are then moved along through life. This is one of those moments where my best friend and I found ourselves facing a challenging hurtle that moved our lives in different directions following the event. It did, however, help me see my own strength and find a relationship that grew from the outcome, one that has been a consistent presence in my life for the past 17 years–that of my husband who had his own journey through this experience with his cousin who was the father to the baby you will hear about. An experience that brought the two of us together in a way that no one would have ever expected as we found a way to communicate and share our own feelings, insecurities, and heartache as we helped the two people we both loved so dearly.

At the age of 17, my best friend found herself pregnant. Making matters worse, she hid the pregnancy from her parents for the first six months. As her best friend, I encouraged her to share with her parents, to quite hiding what was the inevitable. Her parents would eventually find out, as she could not hide it forever. She needed support and medical care for her and the baby. I was there the day she shared with her parents; I held her hand and bit my tongue, shocked at the anger and venom that poured from her fathers mouth. I cried with her, rocked her, and held her as she fell sleep many nights.

I stuck by her side, even when her father threatened to kick her out of the house if she even though about keeping the baby. I sat with her mother as she cried to me and talked about her own history of having been sent away from her home at a young age to give birth to a sister the girls never knew about. I was asked to step into an adult role to console a family that I also claimed as my own. I found an inner stregth was we greater tahn I ever knew, and it was during this time I learned even more about the unconditional love my own parents showered on me and my best friend. They vowed to be there to help her and support her no matter what decision she made.

After several months of preparing for the birth, my friend had a tough decision to make. Ultimately she chose to put the baby up for adoption, even though this went against the wishes of the father and his family. She researched families and talked through the process with me extensively. In the end I was asked to do something I was never prepared to do–she wanted me to meet the adoptive family and let her know my thoughts.

It was just following the birth of a beautiful little girl that I was escorted to a waiting room to meet the adoptive family she had chosen. A surreal moment I will never forget. They shared how stressed they were about meeting me, how it was more difficult to know they had to receive approval from the best friend even over the parents or granparents of this child. It was an amazing discussion and moment I will never forget, the #ForeverMoments in which I saw such unconditional love this family had and the blessing they felt they were receiveing from my friend.

With tear filled eyes I returned to my friends side. As the two of us spoke together, I shared with her the blessing she was giving this family. I held her and cried together for the loss she was enduring and the pain she was feeling. I knew there were no words I could offer, no hug tight enought to take away her pain. For me, this #ForeverMoments with my best friend changed the course of our friendship. Our bond was so close that I believe it ultimately pushed us apart.

After years of friendship, the distance seemed to grow. There was never a clear reason, no harsh words ever spoke, no fight ever had. Instead, life just seemed to push us in different directions. I have come to the understanding that perhaps I was a reminder of this difficult time in her life. We still care for one another and occasionally run into one another, but the connection we once had is not the same. However, regardless of the fact that she and I have grown apart, I was able to find a man who has been with me since this time, and man who continues to work through all the moments life throws our away, holding my hand and walking each step of life’s journey with me.

For my friend–Please know how much I love you still to this day, how I only wish for your happiness and well-being. You will always hold a very treasured place in my heart!

Always your,

Be Fri
